My awesome beauty tips!

I´m always ridiculously excited to try new beauty products (preferably as natural as possible), and right now I`m impatiently waiting for the delivery of my latest order.

First of all the one miracle oil to rule them all, organic coconut oil. A completely natural oil that makes your skin baby smooth, your hair soft and shiny and also contains acids that are antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal. A daily intake of coconut oil can also help with weight loss, boost your immune system and a bunch of other health benefits. It´s a very popular ingredient/skin care product in the low carb community because of its amazing qualities, yet I´m still a coconut oil virgin, but after hearing so many positive things about it, I felt like it was finally time to give my dry winter skin some much needed lovin´.

This one is from UK brand Fushi.

Also I stocked up on some organic Castor oil, the current best friend of my skin and hair. I use it as a deep cleaning facial cleanser and also as a hair conditioner once in a while (although I´m a bit lazy with my hair most of the time).

Castor oil also from Fushi.

And last but not least, after a horrifying hair episode where there may have been a bleach and a dye too many in an attempt to get that amazing Jessica from True Blood-shade of red on my fragile scandinavian locks. I ended up with 10 different shades of red and a slight steel wool texture, so I decided it was best to go back to a more basic shade of brown and book an appointment with a hair dresser to chop off the evidence of my failure. So now I´m trying to make up for this abuse by investing in some good hair products. Believing the internet beauty gossip horse shampoo is the way to go! Yup that´s right, apparently there are some magical beneficial ingredients that do not come with human shampoo, that makes your hair softer, healthier and grow faster. Mane N Tail (yeah that´s really what it´s called) is supposedly the mother of all horse shampoos, so here we go, one giant bottle of shampoo and conditioner added to shopping cart.

I can´t wait to try these out! Will keep you posted on the upcoming magical transformation!;)

Sugar Body Scrub

Today I´m going to talk about my third passion in life (design and nutrition being the first and second); natural skin care. In the past I´ve done my best to brain wash you with the amazing oil cleansing method and today I will teach you how to make your own natural body scrub.

Se necessita:

Azúcar; sugar is the devil but only for the inside of your body. For the outside it´s an excellent natural exfoliation product. (Salt tends to be slightly dehydrating which is why sugar is preferable.)

Olive Oil; my favorite beauty product of all time, good for your inside as well as your outside. Of course any vegetable oil of choice is fine, sometimes I like to use sunflower oil since it is, unlike olive oil, odour free, and you don´t have to walk around smelling like food for the rest of the day. (Just as long as your not using baby oil or any other synthetic petroleum product aka mineral oils.)

Como hacerlo:
Take a jar, glass or plastic, whatever you have around and pour the sugar into it. Then blend in the olive oil and stir thoroughly so that it mixes well.
Then get naked and hop into the shower! Start massaging the sugar/olive oil mix all over your body in circular motions. When done just rinse the sugar and the oil off. No need to wash off all of the oil though, when your skin is moist it goes quickly into your skin as your skin is drying. And your left with nothing but baby smooth skin.

My own infomercial

Just like I am a fan of eating natural food without additives I want the same for my skin. I´ve been using biological skin care products for the past 4 years now and the improvement of my skin condition has been amazing. The funny thing is I´ve spent years and years spending insane amounts of money on different products, thinking the more expensive the better product. That was before I started working in the health food business and learned all about glycerin, paraffin and other petroleum based oils that are added in basically all the conventional skin care products out there, wether it´s L´oreal or Clinique. Synthetic oils blocks your pores and makes it impossible for the moisture to enter your skin. Meaning it will only lay on top of your skin making it temporarily soft, but the next time you shower or wash your face you´re dry and again and need to apply more. Same for the cleansers, you can´t properly deep cleanse since the synthetic oils keeps everything on top. So anyway, when I switched to biological brands like Dr Hauschka and Rosenserien from Sweden, there was a vast improvement in my skin condition. And although those brands have great products my favorite is something that costs about 1/10 of what other products do and that made my oily combination skin completely vanish. It´s olive oil combined with a bit of castor oil (I would say about 95% olive, 5% castor, if you´re skin feels a little dry put more olive and less castor). The castor oil is deep cleansing and has anti-inflammatory effects and since they´re both natural vegetable oils they work well with your skin. You use it as a facial cleanser and wash it off with warm water, and the oils moistens and balances your skin so there´s no need to apply facial creme afterwards either. It will obviously take a few days for your skin to become healed and balanced since with this technique you´ll be taking out all the impurities but then you´ll be left with healthy happy skin.

I just realised I sound like an infomercial, haha, but this really is the best skin care product I´ve tried (and believe me I´ve tried them all) and I just thought I´d share. And it´s super economical, at least here in spain you can find 1 litre of olive oil for 3-4 euros. I bought the castor oil in sweden so I don´t know where to find that here, but I´m guessing pharmacies or an herboristeria will have it.

The Oil Cleansing method is a deep cleansing treatment with a higher amount of castor oil, not to be used too frequenlty, because it´s so deep cleansing it might make your skin dryer. Could be good to use as a first deep cleansing step and then increase the amount of olive oil as for daily use. I tried the OCM in combination with biological skin care products but I found that when I completely switched to my olive/castor combo and used it daily that´s when I had the best improvement of my skin.
